About Prime Roast Coffee Co.

Why I Am A Coffee Roaster

I’m Judy, the roaster and owner of Prime Roast Coffee. My job is to take the cream of the world’s coffees and precisely roast them to reveal the personality of their origin. After fifteen years of coffee roasting I have developed roast profiles for each coffee, roasting to highlight each coffees’ merits, some light some dark.

Coffee has life, roasting brings the coffee to life, but it’s a short life as gases dissipate and oils dry up. Daily roasting in small batches means Prime Roast coffee is fresh and vibrant. Fifteen years ago the roaster I purchased roasted coffee from went from custom daily roasting to large scale roasting; bigger batches less often stored on shelves in valve packaging to “prolong” shelf life. Their coffee was still better than much of what was available but it wasn’t nearly as good as it had been and it certainly wasn’t good enough for my customers. So I bought a coffee roaster and started roasting my own coffee.

Prime Roast Coffee was chosen as one of Yankee Magazines favorite small coffee roasters. Mr. Coffees by Naomi R. Kooker January/February 2006

Why I Don’t Want To Take Over The World One Prime Roast At A Time

There is only one Prime Roast Coffee Co. I know my customers by name, I know their drinks, I know their coffee blends and I look forward to spending time with them when they visit my shop. I can maintain my high standards of quality because everything is done on a small personal scale. The roasting is done every morning in the shop as needed to fufill the days orders. I commissioned local artists with ties to Prime Roast to make tables with coffee themes. Each table is a unique piece, these form a permanent gallery of usable art. The art on the walls, done by local artists, changes monthly. If you are an interested artist contact me from mid Sept. to mid Oct. to make an appointment and show me your work.

Prime Roast is one of a kind. I have a fabulous staff that enjoys coming to work, the customers are close friends, I have time to enjoy my family and travel. Prime Roast is a comfortable place that serves a damn good cup of coffee. It would be hard to duplicate and retain it’s individual charm so I’m not going to try.

Why Keene, NH?

I love Keene. I was raised here and I’ve raised my kids here (no I don’t have goats although my youngest child is 6’4″ and he eats everything). Most people would rather wave to you than sneer at you, you have a good chance of crossing the street without being rundown, if fresh air and green space is your cup of tea Keene’s cool for that. Keene is full of people who care about their community in a big way and they take an active part in what goes on. Prime Roast is the stomping ground for these folks, come on in and meet us.

Prime Roast Gives Back

Good morning Judy. I’m visiting from the Seattle area and have been on a quest for a great cup of coffee. Just tapped Google and they sent me to you. Will be heading south from Hanover/West Lebanon today and look forward to visiting your shop and drinking some real coffee=)

Prime Roast has wonderful coffee. I visit Keene every two years and it is one of the places I always visit. They have a marvelous coffee drink called an Avalanche that is my very favorite. Stop in and have one. The place has such character and it is like walking into coffee heaven.

Hello
My sister Joanne Bulley bought me a birthday present of your coffee each month (for a year! I think)
She said I could contact you to pick my monthly selection.
My favorite is definitely the Papau New Guinea which I would like for my monthly choice – for all the months left (unless I decide to change but may not we like it that much!)
If I need to call you instead of this email, let me know and I will give you a call.

It is TRUE!!
I have become a coffee snob after all the years of consuming Prime Roast Coffee!
I cannot find another coffee source ( and I am not looking for one either) that has just what my palate requires.
You have created a marvelous place for us to meet & greet, procure our coffee beans and celebrate daily life in Keene, NH.
Thank you Judy for making Prime Roast what it is, … the pie in our local sky!

Henriette - Prime Coffee

Hi Judy

Great to see females in the coffee industry. We are usually outnumbered by men. I like how you write about your customers.
From Perth Australia…my best wishes. Henriette
